7th Annual Race for the River Kakayalon

 

Date: Saturday May 4th, 2013

Time: Check in: 7 - 8:30 AM; Race Start: 9 AM

Location: Goose Creek State Park (maps and directions here).

 Registration: Participants must be at least 12 years by race day. Mail-in entries must be postmarked by deadline dates. Race day registration is permitted. See registration form for entry fees. Registration is now closed and will reopen on race day.

T-shirts: T-shirts are guaranteed for Early Bird Registrants! We’ll do our best for the rest.

Relay Teams: May consist of 2 or 3 racers.

Timing and Scoring: Conducted by Run the East. Results will be posted at www.runtheeast.com.

Prizes: Awards will be presented in the following categories: Male & Female Ages 12-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ Age Groups (3 deep). Overall Male and Female (3 deep), Overall Teams (3 deep). Clydesdale, men over 200 lbs. & Athena, women over 150 lbs. If you register in one of these categories you will be competing only in that category and not age-group divisions.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Participants will be allowed to cancel and receive a 50% refund of their registration fee if cancellation is received by March 28, 2013. No refunds will be allowed after this time for any reason. No transfers are allowed. The race will be rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, the start and time may be delayed to allow for inclement weather to pass.

Kayak Rentals: Available on a first-come, first-served basis. Supply is limited. For inquires, please call 252-946-7211. NO CANOES, NO TANDEMS! Reserve your kayak when you register.

Packet Pick-Up: Avoid the rush on race day! Pick up your race number, commemorative T-shirt and goody bag on Thursday, Noon - 5 PM or Friday 9 AM - 5 PM at the PTRF office: 108 Gladden Street, Washington. For directions, call 252-946-7211.

Lodging: The Hampton Inn located on 15th Street in Washington is our host hotel for the race. When registering a room, please mention your participation in the Kayakalon to receive a discount.

 

The Race Course

  

   Kayak 1.5 miles - Out-and-back loop in the Pamlico River. Then run to the transition area after the kayak is on a semi-paved trail.       

   Bike 15.6 miles - Out-and-back loop on flat country roads.

   Run 3.1 miles - A loop with the first 1.6 miles on beautiful single track nature trails.
