Your Support in Action

Your generous gifts have helped PTRF protect and improve the health of the Pamlico-Tar River and that of its citizens. Since 2006, our volunteers have removed over 5 tons of trash from the Tar-Pamlico River. Your gifts have also made it possible for PTRF to:

• Effectively lobby for strong updates to our state solid waste landfill regulations, improved Clean Air Mercury Rule to significantly reduce mercury emmissions from coal-fired power plants, improve protections from polluted stormwater runoff, and provide Oustanding Resource Water designation for Swift Creek;
• Place staff on appointed commissions such as the Tar-Pamlico Basin Oversight Committe whose goal is to reduce nutrient pollution; the hog Lagoon Conversion Program to rid ENC of ineffective hog waste management systems; and the Environmental Advisory Group for the Eastern Region;
• Effectively respond to hundreds of citizen complaints of polltuion, including adequate monitoring of the State's response to buffer violations;
• Successfully challenged the Special Order by Consent for the City of Oxford's wastewater treatment plant that resulted in improved state guidelines to enhance enforcement of non-compliant wastewater treatment plants.
